EFT (Emotional Freedom technique)

What is EFT?

EFT works by tapping a series of acupressure points on the face and upper body with two fingers whilst voicing an issue. This helps to “short-circuit” the fight or flight (stress) response and re-wire our brain to think more clearly about the problem. Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT) is often called ‘tapping’ or ‘psychological acupuncture’.

How does EFT work?

EFT is a scientifically proven technique that works to rewire the brain by sending calming signals to the amygdala, the stress centre of the brain. This technique allows the body and brain, to release limitations from negative experiences, emotions, thoughts and much more.  Over time, the tapping technique (EFT) becomes associated with the feeling of calm and becomes more effective in calming yourself during stressful periods or situations.

Why should we teach EFT to Children and young people?

EFT can play a major part in helping children and young people release fear, anxiety, trauma, and doubt in a matter of minutes. EFT often produces results a lot more quickly with children, as they do not have the same amount of emotional baggage as adults do. They’re not caught up in the “how’s” and “why’s”, they just want to feel better. EFT works even if they do not believe in it, which is especially helpful for older children who might have resistance to working on issues or trying new approaches

Tapping can be taught to children for things such as:

  • stress/anxiety
  • pain
  • fear/worry
  • bullying
  • resilience
  • self esteem

and more…

Why should we teach EFT to children and young people in school?

EFT taught to children and young people in the classroom can provide them with the tools to:

  • Understand and manage emotions (self-awareness and self-management)
  • Feel and show empathy and compassion for others, including oneself (social awareness and relationship skills)
  • Reduce academic anxiety and stress
  • Address and solve social concerns that may be interfering with academic learning
